The TREES FOR LIFE program is located at Batu Kapal in North Sumatra, in a critical wildlife buffer zone, adjacent to the Gunung Leuser National Park.

The Batu Kapal wildlife biolink exists on private landholdings and public land that extends from the Bat Cave near Bukit Lawang through Batu Kapal to Selang Pangeran. At the moment, the orangutans at Batu Kapal cannot cross to the protected areas of the national park, but instead live on private landholdings, which often leads to human-wildlife conflict.

We are aiming to restore and reconnect the wildlife corridor through our Trees for Life reforestation project. Our staff and volunteers are planting new trees which in the longer term will allow the orangutan to cross from Batu Kapal to the Gunung Leuser National Park. Our goal is to officially protect and designate the area as a sanctuary and re-vegetate this land.
